The University Web Group is the webmasters' guild of Texas A&M University. It is not an officially recognized campus organization; it is a grassroots project by and for all web developers, designers and managers who are responsible for the A&M System's web identity. We seek to create a collaborative web development community for Texas A&M and associated agencies to exchange ideas, resources and best practices.
In addition to this wiki, the group possesses a listserv (with about 200 members as of Feb. 2007) and a blog.
It's possible that this group could become a local chapter of the Higher Education Web Professionals, a national professional organization currently forming its initial board of directors.

U-WEB started out as the TAMCAB Web Peer Development Group. The Texas A&M Communications Advisory Board, now known as Texas A&M Communicators, is an organization for campus communications staff. Since webmasters' professional development needs tend to veer in technical directions, it made sense to split the two groups.
The group held several very well-attended meetings in 2005, then went dormant for a while, then was resurrected in early 2007.

This group was not appointed or elected; they were the core group of TAMCAB Web Peer Development Group members who founded U-WEB. They did not (and do not) intend to be formal leaders; they would prefer that U-WEB members take the lead on any projects they feel need to be undertaken.
They do, however, realize that we need to make some provision for changing the leadership roles (such as they are) periodically. Suggestions are welcome.
