CSS: Cascading Style Sheets
Cascading Style Sheets are a method of describing the visual appearance of semantic HTML or XHTML markup.
While there is a standard sponsored by the w3c, not all browsers follow it. Different browsers have at different times implemented the CSS standard differently, most importantly relating to the box model.
