CMS stands for Content Management System. There are a variety of types and executions of Content Management Systems, including Wikis, Traditional CMSes, Blogging software like Wordpress and TextPattern, and content engines like Drupal and Mambo.

Typical components of a content management system include templating, a storage engine like a database, and an editing interface that allows non-technical end-users to publish content using the system.

Content is defined as non-code, non-display portions of the website: Pictures, video, audio, text, combinations thereof, and other documents.
