Proposed Meetings and Talks

  • Have 1 meeting per month with a topic
  • Don't feel you need to attend all of the meetings, but keep checking back on the wiki for the next meeting topic, or new information
  • After any kind of meeting, bring the notes back here to the group so the information can be shared with everybody
  • See what kind of media equipment is available (video cameras, microphones, etc.) so that we can get meeting/talk content up online

  • Use an online survey to figure out what people are interested in hearing/talking about anonymously.
    • Survey Monkey? [Writing Center has a pro account we can use. --S.Leary]
    • MediaWiki plugin?
    • May ask Student Life Studies what they use. They do a lot of surveys.

Attracting People to the Group

Person to Person Contact

  • Get notification from TAMU HR when new designers, developers, IT administrators, tech writers, etc. get hired.
  • See if there are students on the list who would be interested in getting a table for UWeb at the Open House in the fall.
    • This may require a UWeb student organization
  • Ask Howard Eilers to inform his students about UWeb in his Web Design class

Online Presence

  • Put UWeb link on individual's blogs
  • Use UWeb link as your homepage in online profiles if you don't have your own homepage
    • Facebook
    • MySpace
    • Linked In
    • Twitter
    • etc.
    • Are Wiki profile pages publicly viewable? OpenID? OAuth?
  • TAMU UWeb Twitter Account?
    • Write a script that tweets last edited page of UWeb wiki every 5 min or so?
  • Invite people you know to join UWeb Facebook group
  • Keep the listserv active, ask questions of your fellow IT staff

Keeping the Conversation Going

  • Get people to consume Recent Changes RSS feed and others to moderate the wiki every couple of hours or so.
    • You've got to contribute content in order for people to respond to it
