Uweb:A Good Article Is...

What makes a good article?
A good article for the uWeb Wiki:
- Is sorted properly under headers on the page. (see Help:Editing if you need more info on how to use Headers.)
- Provides a comprehensive overview of the topic, with links to subpages for specialist information or links to external resources.
- Is well-written, using proper spelling and grammar.
- Is categorized properly within the uWeb schema.
What doesn't make a good article?
- Just a list of links
- Just one or two words, without being flagged as a stub that someone should come back and edit later
- Poorly formatted - all one chunk of text.
- Doesn't provide resources for the reader to continue.
- The article is a huge mishmash of information without sorting
Are there any specific no-nos?
Yes. The following will make the editors cry:
- Don't make a header (example: == Are there any specific no-nos? ==) a link to a subpage. Please correct these where you see them. Headers should act as wrappers for content, the same way you would place content in a bulleted outline.
- Don't create a page with nothing on it.
When do I use a Category, and when do I make a page?
We're sorting things just a little bit differently on the uWeb Wiki. When you're discussing a general topic, like System Administration or Linux or Web Design or WebApps, use a category. You can link to categories using [[:Category:categoryname]] -- note the extra colon in front of Category.
When you're discussing a specific topic, such as Ubuntu Linux, then use the regular angle brackets to make a link: [[Ubuntu Linux]]. Then make sure to include the Ubuntu Linux page in the Linux Category by placing [[Category:Linux]] anywhere on the page you create.
But those category links are hard to type, and I don't want to type them all the time...
First, no one likes a whiny webmaster. Second, there's a solution: you can redirect pages by using #REDIRECT [[:Category:categoryname]] on the page. So you'd create a page named Linux, which would redirect to Category:Linux.
