Think like a Designer

Design is a lifestyle
  • Paint - Oils, Acrylic on canvas.
  • Sketch - pencils, paper.
  • Nature is designed. Observe the colors.
    • Color pallete: McDonalds v Blue Baker
Design: the art of creation with a purpose
  • Design involves problem solving, discipline, process, and an end result.
  • Break down a hard problem into its components.
Discovery Phase
  • Branding is pervasive in the customer experience; so is design.
  • The client is one (not many).
    • Know your cilent.
  • Model what you know about client, and check it for accuracy.
  • Client Q&A.
    • Interview, collect data, gather information, assimilate knowledge.
  • Upfront analhysis and model is so important.
    • "Think more 'design' less."

    • Examples/similitudes.
  • Teach the client vocabulary so you can collaborate/communicate more effectively.
  • Context for discovery & client interaction?
    • informal, comfort, over drinks.
  • Know your own skill level. Disclose your skill level. Know each other.
  • Scope? Expectations?
Professional Development
  • BECOME the designer. Personal growth is inescapably bound to skill betterment.
  • Better designers design better, not just better skilled designers.
Intuitive is the goal
  • Creativity - experience is a necessary input.
  • The Creative Process is largely a process of the subconscious mind
    • which is why environment and surroundings are very, very important
      • Surround yourself with diversity and beautiful things
        • mostly resonant
  • Hack the brain.
    • "Slave to the solution"
